Köyceğiz invites rafting enthusiasts

Preparations for the rafting season have begun in Köyceğiz in the southwestern province of Muğla.

The rafting route on the Dalaman River, one of the areas of natural beauty in the region, lasts almost three hours. The route attracts scores of adrenalin-loving domestic and foreign tourists with its white water flowing around huge rocks, waterfalls and waves. Throughout the year, rafting is possible on the river, which is noted for its proximity to tourist areas in the Mediterranean and Aegean regions.

Köyceğiz District Governor, or Kaymakam, Yücel Gemici said Köyceğiz had tourism diversity thanks to its historical and natural beauty. “Rafting is a part of this tourism diversity. We invite domestic and foreign tourists who have a passion for nature sports.”

Rafting guide Fetih Keskin said the tourism season in the district began in April and continued until October.

Noting that they were reviewing the rafting route at the moment, Keskin said, “We are carrying out the maintenance for equipment such as rafting boats, vests and helmets and preparing them for the season.”

The Dalaman rafting route is very convenient for the sport, Keskin said. “During rafting season, every day almost 500 to 600 people come to experience this excitement. Especially Russian and English tourists are interested in rafting. All men and women who are between 12 and 65 years of age and healthy can do this sport. Safety is our first priority, and then comes fun. A guide, with this principle in mind, is always present at every boat serving the tourists. We expect everyone to do this sport and live this excitement.”
